Singin' in the Rain (Two-Disc Special Edition)

real style.

There is a difference between "being stylish" and "having style."

A real difference.

Today? Everyone thinks they have style, but they're really only being stylish.

Now 50 years ago... people had style. Real style.

Donald O'Connor, for example. That man was amazing. A few nights ago, my brother and I watched Singin' In the Rain for the first time. The raw talent people developed back then is astounding! It is not that we are no longer capable of being so - it is that we are no longer expected to be so. We no longer practice and develop real skills. Everything is done by special effects. CGI. tricks of the camera. puff and smoke.

Watch this.

I sort of wish I had been born during Donald's time; I'd have married him. :)

I love old movies. real people. true talent. love of genuine laughter.

"make 'em laugh, make 'em laugh, make 'em laugh!!"

twenty-five facets of me.

1. I believe true Joy makes you quiet, solemn, utterly content to the point that outward expression is simply a way to exhale that which would otherwise make us burst. That is the state of those in Heaven.

2. It annoys me to no end when someone stops a movie during the credits. It's like erasing the last line of a superb poem.

3. More than anything, I just want to be real and genuine.

4. My favorite actor is hands down Richard Harris (The Count of Monte Cristo, Harry Potter 1 & 2), but actress is not quite so decided: Maggie Smith, Sandra Bullock, Drew Barrymore, Kate Winslet, Meg Ryan, Bryce Dallas Howard... the list goes on and on.

5. I can never decide if I am an introvert or an extrovert... but I lean towards the former.

6. Just before bed, I love a good cup of hot chocolate milk (which is different than hot chocolate, I assure you).

7. I have always had a small mental list of things to do before I die, and one of them was to stand under a swirl of flower petals, or some such other lovely collection of things. This item on the list was achieved in the spring of 2007 when my brothers climbed up a tree (may have been a Dogwood, but whatever it was, the petals were white) and proceeded to shake the limbs, causing the petals to fall away, as I stood under the white haze. Every item on this list is very similar, at least the nature of them.

8. I love nonsense - flowers for faerie skirts & stars for friends. "There is almost nothing that has such a keen sense of fun as a fallen leaf." - Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens

9. When I was very small, until I was 5 or 6, I fell asleep on the living room floor watching the Country Music Station on numerous occasions. Perhaps this activity has led to my extreme distaste for hard-core country music?

10. My feet have had, as they say, a rough time of it. They have been so cold to the point of near frost bite (exiting a vehicle after an icy road accident with no shoes on), and so hot to the point of second degree burns (dancing on the 100 degree pavement with no shoes on). Shoes are wonderful things.

11. I study people's body language, and their eyes in conjunction with that. There is so much to be known about people.

12. I have truly never known anyone that I didn't like. If I didn't like them, I only knew the shadow of what they really were.

13. I have a passion for other people's passion. I love to see a person light up when talking about something, whether it be unicycling, engineering, studying kitchen sinks, or collecting old calculators. The activity is irrelevant to me - if a person truly enjoys a thing, I think it's fantastic, and it just shows how diverse people are.

14. My best friend has been just that for 10 years this year. :)

15. Singing is the most natural action to me - like breathing, or blinking. You know how people are always breathing, but not always thinking about that fact? Yeah, that's singing to me. It is what I do when purposeful consciousness leaves me. (Ask any of my friends that I talk to on the phone.)

16. I have played my fair share of beautiful songs on the piano, but none will ever amount to Across the Stars (Anakin & Padme's love theme from Star Wars) by John Williams. I once had the opportunity to perform it inside a mall under a dome... passersby stopped to listen as the notes reverberated off the walls. [/a highlight of my life]

17. I love not only the British accent, but British lingo as well. "Dry up!" "Half a minute!" "That's jolly well fine with me." "I shouldn't like that..." "Care for a crisp?" <3

18. I hated Pueblo, Colorado from the moment I laid eyes on it until... well, not very long. :) It's my favorite location on the face of the planet... and I've been to a good many locations.

19. Until two weeks ago, I had two biological brothers, one unofficially adopted brother, and no sisters... but that changed when my oldest brother got married: now I have a sister. :D

20. Several years ago, I unexpectedly became fascinated with movie soundtracks (the score). I would watch a movie (being careful not to read the credits) and attempt to guess the composer of the score (John Williams, Hans Zimmer, John Powell, etc). 90% of the time... I was right. It was completely random. I still collect soundtracks and enjoy finding a good, unconventional score.

21. I recently discovered and fell in love with Tuscan House Italian dressing. <3

22. I am paranoid about driving on the right side of the road, because I'm always afraid that the lane will run out or become a "turn only" lane when I don't want to turn.

23. One of my biggest yet most unknown-to-others pet peeves is being "left behind." For example, when we pull up to Walmart* and everyone gets out of the car, but walks off without me because maybe I took a little longer to get out of the car... I really, really don't like it.

24. I am a firm believer in the concept that the shadow proves the sunshine; you can't appreciate joy if you don't know sorrow. Sad, yes... beautiful, tragically so.

25. I find more joy in doing that which I should than in doing that which I want. Every time. Similarly, I find that joy and pleasure are entirely different matters.

the End.

the ever-lasting glory of God

Of Peter Pan... or not.

Do you remember that I posted a long time ago that I was going to try out for the play Peter Pan at my local theater?

Apparently they chose High School Musical 2... over Peter Pan.

What is this world coming to?

It is sad.

Crush

Crush, David Archuleta's first single, was released on the radio today. It was Happy.

- - -

on the subject of the song: It is quite shallow and childish... and yet... is that so horrible?

It honestly takes me back to when I was like 11 years old, and everything had to do with my current "crush." Have we all been through that? I think most of us, some of us more than others. But I believe that everyone can relate to this song, whether they're going through it, or have gone through it. It was an immature time, and we realize that afterwards, but we had to go through it. It is part of growing. It's kind of a beautiful time, in a way. We were so wonderfully naive and everything was dramatic, either fantastic or awful, depending on the circumstances. ::laughs::

It is for this reason that I don't mind David's first single being semi-shallow. Well, that and the fact that his success can be found in 9-16 year old girls right now, who are all "crushing" on him.  It's going to be massively popular. So that's going to be the launch for him.

I also know that he understands that it is that way. He is where he is right now because he did sing songs with more heavy and mature lyrics. He earned his title, and now he is free to do whatever he wishes with American Idol as his launch pad. He will sing more meaningful, soulful songs with depth someday. For right now, Crush is such a catchy song that my play count is currently at 60.  Sometimes it's nice to listen to simple songs. I think too much at times.

Crush by David Archuleta

I hung up the phone tonight

Something happened for the first time, deep inside

It was a rush, what a rush

'Cause the possibility that you would ever feel the same way about me

It's just too much, just too much

Why do I keep running from the truth

All I ever think about is you

You got me hypnotized, so mesmerized

And I just got to know

Do you ever think

When you're all alone

All that we can be

Where this thing can go

Am I crazy or falling in love

Is it real or just another crush

Do you catch a breath

When I look at you

Are you holding back

Like the way I do

'Cause I'm trying, trying to walk away

But I know this crush ain't going away, going away

Has it ever crossed your mind

When we're hanging, spending time girl, are we just friends

Is there more, is there more

See it's a chance we've got to take

'Cause I believe that we can make this into

Something that will last, last forever, forever

Do you ever think

When you're all alone

All that we can be

Where this thing can go

Am I crazy or falling in love

Is it real or just another crush

Do you catch a breath

When I look at you

Are you holding back

Like the way I do

'Cause I'm trying, trying to walk away

But I know this crush ain't going away, going away

Why do I keep running from the truth

All I ever think about is you

You got me hypnotized, so mesmerized

And I just got to know

Do you ever think

When you're all alone

All that we can be

Where this thing can go

Am I crazy or falling in love

Is it real or just another crush

Do you catch a breath

When I look at you

Are you holding back

Like the way I do

'Cause I'm trying, trying to walk away

But I know this crush ain't going away, going away

This crush ain't going away,  a  w  a  y
