At present we are on the outside of the world, the wrong side of the door. We discern the freshness and purity of the morning, but they do not make us fresh and pure. We cannot mingle with the splendours we see.

But all the leaves of the New Testament are rustling with the rumour that it will not always be so.

Some day,
God willing,
we shall
get
in.

Sometimes, I ignore the Sunday school lesson.

Have you ever received so much wisdom during Sunday school, not because you paid attention, but because you ignored the lesson and read an entire book of the Bible sitting in the pew instead?

Romans still stands as my favorite book, I think.

"No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.  For I am sure that neither
death nor life,
nor angels nor rulers,
nor things present nor things to come,
nor powers,
nor height nor depth,
nor anything else in all creation,
will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Romans 8:37-39

...

also, <insert here the entire book of Romans>.

Just read it.

thou givest & thou takest away

O LOVE BEYOND COMPARE,

Thou art good when thou givest,
when thou takest away,
when the sun shines upon me,
when night gathers over me.
Thou hast loved me before the foundation
     of the world,
   and in love didst redeem my soul;
Thou dost love me still,
   in spite of my hard heart, ingratitude, distrust.
Thy goodness has been with me during
     another year,
   leading me through a twisting wilderness,
   in retreat helping me to advance,
   when beaten back making sure headway.
Thy goodness will be with me in the year ahead;
I hoist sail and draw up anchor,
With thee as the blessed Pilot of my future
     as of my past.
I bless thee that thou hast veiled my eyes
     to the waters ahead.
If thou hast appointed storms of tribulation,
   thou wilt be with me in them;
If I have to pass through tempests of persecution
     and temptation,
   I shall not drown;
If I am to die,
   I shall see thy face the sooner;
If a painful end is to be my lot,
   grant me grace that my faith fail not;
If I am to be cast aside from the service I love,
   I can make no stipulation;
Only glorify thyself in me whether in comfort
     or trial,
   as a chosen vessel meet always
     for thy use.

we shall find them all in Him.

"We were made for God.  Only by being in some respect like Him, only by being a manifestation of His beauty, lovingkindness, wisdom or goodness, has any earthly Beloved excited our love.  It is not that we have loved them too much, but that we did not quite understand what we were loving.  It is not that we shall be asked to turn from them, so dearly familiar, to a Stranger.  When we see the face of God we shall know that we have always known it.  He has been a party to, has made, sustained and moved moment by moment within, all our earthly experiences of innocent love.  All that was true love in them was, even on earth, far more His than ours, and ours only because His.  In Heaven there will be no anguish and no duty of turning away from our earthly Beloveds.  First, because we shall have turned already; from the portraits to the Original, from the rivulets to the Fountain, from the creatures He made loveable to Love Himself.  But secondly, because we shall find them all in Him.  By loving Him more than them we shall love them more than we now do."

Of Girl With A Pearl Earring.

It was peculiar. But I liked it. And the score was just right - lovely, with a little curiosity weaved in.
